Feb 21: “Time To Paint” The Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance invites the public to come and paint every third Thursday of the month starting in February. Each session $10.00, members come for free. Come in and paint with the artists in our area from 2:00-5:30. Bring your own art supplies-still life will be set up or you can work from your own resources. Join in on this exciting chance to learn from the best! Chip Carving*:_ February 23rd: Expert chip carver, Carol Knutson of Odessa will teach students the art of chip carving. This is a one day class on February 23 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. and students will have learned the basics by the end of the day. Students will practice and then start on a 10″ plate. Carol has been carving for 5 years and also sells her work. Sign up soon for this class as it is limited to 8 students. Registration deadline is February 1 so supplies can be ordered. Supplies including a knife and plate, will be about $20. Students are asked to bring their own compass, ruler and lead pencil. Cost for this class is $30.
The PRCA , 630 Atlantic Ave Morris, presents an exhibit by Ashby artist, Carol Ulrich for the month of February, called Folded Art. This is an art form which combines elements of Origami, and painting, and the results are interesting combinations of the two - boxes and fans, wall art and leaves, vases and hanging dry-flower pots. A reception will be held at the gallery on Sunday Feb 3 from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
I come from a family of artists, so it is no surprise that I have a strong interest in art. It has brought much joy to me and to many members of my extended family through many generations. Through the years, my art has reflected the places I have lived - Iowa, Madagascar, South Africa, and now Minnesota, and places I have visited - India and Europe. But even if I had stayed in Iowa all my life, I still would have seen all the beauty I needed there to inspire me. I see beauty all around me every day; in the shape and color of an apple, or a coffee cup, in the reflections of wild grass in the water. I have taken many art courses and classes through the years, and am always enthused to learn new techniques and experiment with different mediums. I will never stop learning and exploring. I love it! Recently, I came up with the idea while lying in bed one night, of combining Origami and painting. This exhibit is the result of that thought.– Carol Ulrich
Clarice Dieter from Chokio, and Della Conroy from Hancock, team up for a spectacular one-day sale at the Prairie Renaissance Cultural Center on Thursday November 29th.
Both artists have all new work resulting from their recent studies and workshops. Clarice has taken a class from Turid Helle Fatland of Norway where she learned a newly developed technique of glazing. Conroy attended a workshop by Calvin deRuyter from Minneapolis using experimental techniques in watercolor.
Conroy and Dieter are excited to talk about their new work, and will be available Thursday Nov. 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at PRCA located at 630 Atlantic in Morris.

Rosemaling exhibit on display now until December 15, 2007.

Clarice has been rosemaling for 30 years, painting mostly in the
Telemark style until a few years ago when she started studying the Os
style. Recently she took a class from Turid Helle Fatland of Norway who taught her newly developed technique of glazing the bowls instead of the usual solid background. This technique is new to all rosemalers and is very exciting. Not only is the glazing new, but it has a fresh look at the Telemark rosemaling. The main focus of the exhibit will be on the bowls, but will also include Os and Telemark. Stop in to view the rosemaling, visit with the artist and enjoy refreshments.
The Stevens Community Medical Center staff/visitor dining rooms are full of art! Thank you to the artists who have provided art for this display. Artists currently on display are Della Conroy from Hancock, William Voorhees from Appleton, Phyllis Joos from Hancock, Steve Larson from Starbuck, Richard Walker from Cyrus, Sandy O’Brien from Glenwood, and Carol Ulrich from Ashby.

William Voorhees is a 21 year old Computer Science Senior at the University of MN-Twim Cities. He was raised on a farm in rural Appleton and it was on the drive to and from Lac qui Parle Valley High School that he first became fascinated with the natural beauty of nature, clouds in particular. This fascination sparked his interest in photography. Will has continued his education in photography with courses and seminars at the University and he is a member of the U of M Dark Room Club.
Although natural beauty continues to be the major theme of Will’s work, he has begun expanding his subjects to other areas. Will has been the photographer for the MN American Legion’s Boy State for three years and some of his photographs display a patriotic theme.
Will’s photographs have been displayed at Terrace Mill, Central Square, Hopkins Center for the Arts, American Legion Posts, public libraries, private collections and now at the PRCA in Morris.

Myrna A. I. Stahman has a new book entitled “Shawls and Scarves” .
A life-long pleasure knitter, Myrna lives in Boise, Idaho. Her knitting needles accompany her everywhere she goes, including into the courtroom where she observes the attorney’s she supervises. Myrna enjoys designing, knitting and teaching classes on Faroese-shaped shawls and Seamen’s scarves.
