Ray Strand Exhibit

Filed under: General — PRCA @ 2:24 pm

Ray Strand Exhibit: From August 1 to September 13 The Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance (PRCA) will host “Poetic Functionalism” an instillation of art furniture by Raymond Strand. A closing reception will be held at the PRCA on Saturday September 13 from 2:00-4:00pm.

Raymond’s work is a unique blend of function and sculpture. Each piece of art furniture is designed and built by hand out of local Minnesota wood. Many of the works are united under a water theme inspired by prairie wetlands. Waves, ripples, and currents appear as hand-carved motifs in tabletops, drawers, and cabinet fronts. Blue and red aniline dyes provide his furniture with vivid and striking color, while the lines of each piece are sleek and clean. Though his design is very modern, Ray believes in making furniture the old fashioned way using hand-cut dovetails and detail work. Please stop in and see this marvelous work. PRCA is open Tues-Fri 11:00-5:30 and Saturday’s 10:00-2:00.
